Lift Safely! Use Proper Lifting Techniques!

No matter if you’re working in an office setting, outdoors or in an industrial environment, practicing safe lifting is important.

Protect yourself from workplace injury! Use the following techniques to prevent serious injury caused by improper lifting:

Lift With Your Legs

Use your legs to lift objects, not your back. Bend at the knees and keep your back straight.

Size up the Load

Don’t lift by yourself if it looks to heavy or awkward. If you think you may need help, ask a friend or co-worker.

Watch your Balance

Have your feet shoulder width apart with one foot beside the object and one behind the object that you are lifting.

Use Your Weight

Use your body weight to get the load moving and then use your legs to lift. It is important to bend with your knees and keep your back straight.

For Placing Up High

For placing objects on shelves or higher surfaces, place the object on the shelf edge and push it into position. Be cautious with tall shelves to prevent injury from fallen objects.

Body Movements

Grip the load with the palms of your hands and fingers. Keep arms and elbows near the body, keeping the load close to you. Change direction by moving your feet, not by twisting your body.
