BARDSTOWN, KY– March 22, 2016 – Nesco Resource has named Toyota Boshoku Kentucky (TBKY) as the winner of its second annual Client Safety First Award. This competition asks companies using Nesco’s staffing services to submit their safety challenges along with the programs they have implemented to meet those challenges on an ongoing basis. TBKY, located in Bardstown, Kentucky addressed challenges in ergonomic safety incidents through a program of enhanced communication, training, and proactive awards for the identification of unsafe conditions. The program’s success is due largely to how pervasive it is throughout the company. Programs are aimed at the entire company culture from management to supervisors to full-time and temporary workers.
“Our goal was to change the safety culture of the company from the top down,” said Jack Patton, TBKY Regional Senior Safety Specialist. “The approach combined communication and information gathering along with training and awards for proactive action. The results have been significantly lower rates of incidents.”
TBKY’s safety program included written commitments from management, a newsletter and a focused safety blitz in high risk areas to listen and identify potential issues directly with team members. The program also provided the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30 training to educate front line management in identifying unsafe conditions. The regional safety specialist completed CEES (Certified Ergonomic Evaluation Specialist) training which led to the creation of ergonomic safety training for all supervisors. In addition, all new temporary workforce members now complete a two hour safety training before entering the work area. Finally, the program rewarded members when they identified unsafe conditions. This program complies with OSHA rules about rewarding improvement in safety for fear of under-reporting incidents, by focusing on reporting problems rather than on end results.
“Safety is a top priority for Nesco Resource and we truly work in partnership with our clients to ensure our assigned talent is entering a safe environment and have the training they need to minimize the risk of harm to themselves or to fellow workers,” said Brian Polick, Corporate Risk Manager for Nesco Resource. “We congratulate TBKY on the depth and effectiveness of its program. On behalf of our staff personnel and talented team members on assignment, we thank and recognize them for their fine efforts.”
The Nesco Resource Client Safety First Award is part of Nesco’s annual Safety Week and the company’s ongoing Safety First initiative. Winning companies receive a direct contribution from Nesco towards their company safety budgets, along with award recognition luncheon for all team members. Honorable mentions for the 2015 award include the Executive Door Company in Tucson, Arizona; NFI Distribution in Monroe, Ohio, and Clark Material Handling for its locations in Kentucky.
